In the first few episodes of this new series that I have been recommended to watch Itoadori Yuji is a high school student with exceptional physical abilities. After his track coach challenged him to competition to try out Yuji shock him with a world record toss of 23 m 12 cm. His grandfather is sick and hospitalized, but within a short time of the start of the series dies.
There are curses that come from pain, sadness, and anger. While saving his classmates Yuji swallows a known powerful curse that can’t be destroyed. He eats 1 of the 18 fingers of this demonic curse. At this time he meets the second main character Satoru Gojo who is a sorcerer at an unknown high school. This organization fights curses.
The next episode talks about how he will be executed since he swallowed this cursed finger as it is prohibited to do such an evil act. Since Yuji is able to control this curse for an unknown reason the higher chain of command allowed him to live. This is because he is the only living being that was able to absorb it without being taken over or killed.
