Afro Samurai

Afro Samurai is about a black lead role by a voice actor Samuel L. Jackson. In the history of anime culture, it has not been a big movement of black lead roles in anime. When I was younger, I found out that this was one of them.  Afro Samurai was created back in 2007 as a series on Fandom. Afro saw his father get slaughtered and is seeking revenge.  This is what most people in the real world seek as peace when something happens to someone they love.

Within the first episode Afro is seeking the number one headband.  As the man that has this slaughtered his father. This is basically how you would go against each boss in the game and the one holding the number one headband is the final boss.  With the skills and experience he has learned over the years he had realized that he was off his game or was not capable of handling this until his first few battles. This is in the older Japanese culture and would stem from there historical background.

The series itself is very violent and gory with the background story of a legend who was feared as an ice-cold soul. I could see that he is numb to emotions other than anger and PTSD.  Once you see someone you love die it has a major effect on how you perceive the world.
